Overview

 The Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is the Reach Out and Read Arizona Affiliate. 

Our Mission

Reach Out and Read Arizona operates throughout the state in pediatric healthcare settings to provide critical information to families on the importance of familial bonding. Every child receives a new linguistically, culturally, and developmentally appropriate book at each well child visit through age 5 to add to their home library.

EVIDENCE

ROR is an evidence-based program with more than 20 studies showing that the program improves the language development in children, clinic culture and clinician morale is positively impacted, maternal depression decreases, well child visit attendance improves and more.


Recent Research found that the ROR intervention:


  • Increases the frequency in which families who participate in the program read together
  • Strengthens relationships between providers and patients
  • Increases well child visit attendance and routine developmental screenings
  • Improves provider morale and staff retention
  • Reduces maternal depression
  • Improves language development in young children by 3-6 months
